using double strand for cast on & bind off only

Hi!

I have a pattern for a cowl that asks to cast on with a double strand, let one of the strands go, join in the round and knit until you have 5 yards left, and bind off with a double strand.

I understand the first part, but where do I get the other strand to bind off with the double strand?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Mary O.

Using double strand for cast on and bind off only

Hi Mary,

You can use the same yarn that you are using now for the second strand. When you're ready to bind off, you can cut the yarn leaving a tail about 3 times the length of the bind off. Then cut another piece of yarn off the ball about the same length. Hold both strain of yarn together and bind off ( make sure to leave a little tail of the second strand at the beginning, so that you can weave it in later with a needle).

Thank you for your question.
