Siobhan - left with more stitches than suggested

I am knitting a pom pom yarn teddy cushion & with 36 stitches on the needle I have to do this. K10, sk2po, k2tog, pass previous stitch over. K7, sk2po, k2tog, pass previous stitch over. K9. 28st.
Following this I am left with 32 stitches not 28. Im dropping 4 stitches so not sure why pattern is saying I’ll be left with 28 stitches. Where am I going wrong?

Hi,

You should have a total of 8 sts decreases.
The sk2po has 2 stitches decrease. You skip 1, k2tog, then passover. I think this is where you had it wrong.

I finished this hat awhile ago but didn’t get a chance to post it. It is my experimental piece. The Pom Pom can be remove when you want to put up a pony tail. Thanks to my models who can tolerates such condition. :)
