Seaming a jumper

by Ann
(UK)

Hi, I stupidly pressed the curled edges of of my knitted jumper by placing a damp cloth and ironing it, the result is the selvedge stitches have become stretched and flat making seaming a problem. Is there any way to rectify this. TIA

Seaming a jumper

Hi Ann,

You could try hand wash it with cold water. Squeeze it gently to get the water out. Then place it flat between two towels and roll the towel into a log while pressing lightly.

Unroll the piece and lay flat on the dry towel. Smooth the piece with your palm. You can pin it to its dimension.

By doing this the fabric can return to it original state but it also depends on the type of fabric as well. Some are better than another and some just will not work.

Best of luck,

Ratcha
