lace pattern with incomplete instructions

sample lace pattern

I hope you can help...cause I am lost and so are my other knitting friends...I have an old pattern and I remember my mom knitting it in the 50's..she has since past and I would love to use this pattern in a scarf....there are two problems I have

How many stitches to cast on...and on the yarn over...do I knit that stitch or drop it when doing the stockinette stitch..I really hope someone can help me out...I am showing the pattern...it was written in pencil and has faded...so taking a picture of the pattern won't show up very clear...here it is...I am assuming 1 over is yarn over...

K2-1 over-K4-K2Tog-K2Tog-K4-1 over-K1-1 over-K4-K2Tog-K2Tog-K4-1 over-K2Tog
Knit next row
Purl next row
Then pattern

Also...I am not on facebook..so if the answer is posted there...I will NOT be able to see it...on your website would be the only place I'll be able to see it...

Thanks
K

You're welcome! I'm glad it works out.
Think of all the wonderful memories of your mom. I know she is smiling watching you doing what she once loved.

lace pattern similar to feather and fan

Hi K,

Thanks for visiting. I'm sorry about your mom. It's very nice that you want to knit something that she made long ago.

Your wrote the pattern as "K2-1 over-K4-K2Tog-K2Tog-K4-1 over-K1-1 over-K4-K2Tog-K2Tog-K4-1 over-K2Tog
Knit next row
Purl next row
Then pattern"

The last 2 sts, should be k2 so that it will look the same as the beginning.

There should be 4 rows repeat, so that you can have row 1 on the right side.

In this set of pattern you gave can make a small scarf with a worsted yarn (about six inches wide) and bigger with bulky yarn, of course.
There are 2 repeat pattern in them with 29 sts cast on.

If you want to stay with scarf this size you can use the following pattern;

Cast on 29 sts. Knit 4-6 row for garter border if you'd like.

Row 1: K2, yo, k4, (k2tog)twice, k4, yo, k1, yo, k4, (k2tog)twice, k4, yo, k2.
Row 2-4: you can experiment with k 2 rows then k 1 row. Or, purl 1 row, knit 1 row, and purl 1 row. Try it and see which one is closest to the one your mom made. Make sure you knit or purl all the stitches. Do not drop the yo.
Then repeat from row 1 again.

If you want a wider scarf you can use the following pattern that I'm rewriting.

Cast on a multiple of 13 sts +3 or ( 13 x number of pattern you want) + 3 sts.
For example, if you want 4 set of pattern, you will get (13x4) +3 = 55sts
Knit 4 -6 rows to add garter border if you want.

Row 1; k2, *yo, k4 (k2tog)twice, k4, yo, k1; repeat from * until last st, k1.
Row 2-4 as previously mentioned above.
Repeat row 1-4.

Have a wonderful day! Come back to show us when you're done.
