How do I change a knit stitch to a purl stitch twenty rows back?

by Anne
(Massachusetts)

I'm knitting a cardigan with a stockinette button panel. I made an error 20 rows up, can it be fixed without tearing the sweater back 20 rows?

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the question.
Yes, you can fix this mistake without taking it all apart.
You can take a look at the video below and see how to unravel stitches that are in the same column as the mistake stitch. (I made this video for someone who had a similar problem as yours)

In your case, it is more simple since you do not need to change stitches back and forth into knits and purls. You can correct it from the right side using a crochet hook to pull the raveled yarn from each row through each loop.

I hope this makes sense.
Happy knitting!

Ratcha
