Best stretchy stitch pattern for a hat band

Trying to find a pattern for a band that goes on a hat that will spring back.
So many of mine go on but don’t feel secure.
Thanks for any advice.

stretchy stitch pattern for hat band

Hi,

2x2 Rib stitch is best in my opinion. Plain stockinette stitch and other ribs also work well.

I would suggest using needles that are 1-2 sizes smaller than those use for the hat body or reduce number of stitches to 90-95% of the total stitches in the hat body. For example, if you have 100 sts for the hat body then you would reduce it to 90 - 95.

There are also spandex yarns that you could use. They are very stretchy but a little bit hard to work with.

Thank you for the question and the visit. I hope you find this helpful and that your next hat will fit you nicely and snuggly.

Happy knitting!

Ratcha
