Knit the thread in two folds

This term was used in a stuffed toy pattern, starting with the head.

This is how the pattern begins:

Cast on 16 stitches and knit straight, alternating wrong side and ride side rows. Knit the thread in two folds.

In my thinking it means, knit one row, purl one row

Hi Cindy,

I think it means to knit with double strains of yarn to make the head thick. You cast on 16 sts, then knit in stockinette st pattern with 2 strains of yarn.
