Understanding A Knitting Pattern

In knitting a pattern and are included does it mean to knit the number of times after the as well as what is inside , example yo,k1,k2tog4 times. Would it be a repeat of 5 times or 4 times.

Hi Ann,

"[yo,k1,k2tog] 4 times" means to knit what is in the [ ] 4 times total not 5 times.

If the pattern indicates *[yo,k1,k2tog] ; repeat from * 4 more times, then this would be to work 5 times total.
