Stitches keep increasing

by Barbara
(New Jersey)

A new knitter here and I am trying to learn the long raindrop stitch. I cast on 114 stitches and knit 2 rows using knit one purl one. When checking my count I have 115 stitches. What did I do wrong? As I worked I noticed several places where when I sloppy off a purl stitch yarn was wrapped around my needle. Can you help? Thanks

Stitch keep increasing

Hi Barbara,

You only added a stitch out of 114. That wasn't bad at all for a new knitter. I'm sure the extra stitch was caused by a yarn wrapping around the needle. This could create a gap and extra loop. This is called "yarn over" which you'll sure will discover in the beginning of lace knitting in the future.

What you could do to prevent this is to make sure you pull the purl stitches little more tighter than usual and make sure the yarn not get tangle around the needle.

Keep on practicing. You're doing a great job!

Thanks for sharing your question with us. Happy knitting!

Ratcha
