Slip a stitch knit wise or purl wise

Hello. Thank you for your help.

My pattern reads:

Sl1, k3 (sl1wyif,k1) to last 5 stitches, sl1wyif, k4

Sl1, k3 (p1, sl1wyib) to last 5 stitches; p1, k4

I know to slip the first stitch purl wise

But what do I do for the stitches in parenthesis?

Many thanks.

For the first set, yo do sl1, *k3 (slip 1 with yarn in front, k1) then repeat from * to last 5 sts, then sl1wyif, end with k4.

So, basically, you just do what it says "with yarn in front". Bring yarn to the front of the work before you slip the stitch.

The following one you do, sl1, *k3 (p1, sl1 with yarn in back) and repeat from * to last 5 sts, then p1, k4. Bing yarn to the back of work before you slip the st.

Have fun working on your project. Take care!
