Shape shoulders and back neck

Hi

I've knitted the back of the jumper and now have to shape shoulders and back neck. I have to cast off 2 stitches and knit until there are 18 stitches on the right needle and turn, leaving remaining 51 stitches on a holder. Work each side of neck separately.

Dec 1 stitch at neck edge of next 6 rows and at same time cast off 3 stitches at beginning of 2nd and following 2 alt rows, work 1 row and cast off remaining 3 stitches. With RS facing slip centre 31 stitches on to a holder rejoin yarn and knit to end, complete to match first side reversing shapings. I am confused with the reversing shapings, any help greatly appreciated.

Hello,

For the reversing shapings, you follow exactly the same direction of of the right side. The only things difference are that the locations of the shaping. You just have to make sure that you decrease the neck line from the center area and bind off the shoulder from the outer area.

Your decreases will look like this;

With RS facing slip centre 31 stitches on to a holder rejoin yarn and knit to end.
bind off 2 sts at the beginning of next row, work to end of row.
next row: dec 1 st at neck edge, work to end.

Next row: Bind off 3 sts at shoulder edge, work to last 2 sts, k2tog (count as dec 1 st at neck edge).

Next row: dec 1 st at neck edge, wok to end.

Next row: Bind off 3 sts at shoulder edge, work to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Next row: Dec 1 st at neck edge, work to end.

Next row: Bind off 3 sts at shoulder edge, work to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Next row: work even.

next row: Bind off all 3 sts.

I hope this makes sense. I find drawing the out line on a paper helps a lot. You can try that.

Thanks for the question and visit. Enjoy your day!

Ratcha
