Red Heart Hooded Cabled Cowl

Am making Red Heart pattern RHK0110-025591M and have reached the point where the stitches are moved to the circular needles but need clarification. Have cast on 8 stitches and am ready to continue in the pattern. Says to knit the first 4 cast on stitches but what happens to the other 4 stitches and where do you join?

Pattern attached.

Thanks.

Round 1: Change to circular
needle, cast on 8 sts, keeping in
patterns as established, work to
end of row, knit first 4 cast-on sts
– 89 sts. Join to work in rounds.
Place marker for beginning of
round.
Round 2: Knit to cable marker,

--------------------

It's very confusing!
Here's what I would do;

With cable needle, cast on 8 sts. Then work sts off the straight needle while continue with the established pattern. Work to the end of row. Now you join the yarn and working in round. Knit the first 4 cast on sts, and place the marker right after the first 4 cast on. This will mark your end of a row. The last 4 sts of the cast on will be the beginning of the row.

I'm not sure if this makes sense to you but I hope it helps.

Have a great day!
