What do you do after picking up stitches along an edge? do you purl the next row?

The needle that picked up the stitches is holding them from right to left.

Did you only pickup stitches along the edge and not attaching a new yarn and knit as you picked? If this is the case then you will need to attach a yarn and purl on the next row because it'll be the wrong side. Then row after that will be a knit row. if you're knitting stockinet sts that is.
