my knitting gauge is off

by Lynn Anderson

The stitch gauge is really off! The correct number of stitches is 5 1/2- 6 stitches = 1 inch and 6 rows =1 inch. The gauge is correct going across, but I have 8 rows instead 6 for the length! I have the front and back of the sweater knitted and getting ready to do the sleeves, but I'm so worried the whole sweater will be bad; I've taken it apart all the way already and don't want to start over again. I don't mind if it is long, but will it look like a pillow case? :-(

The stitch gauge is really off!

Hi Lynn,

I usually don't worry much about the row gauge because I goes by measurement rather than counting rows. In most patterns that I've seen asks to measure the length rather than counting rows. For example, work until piece measure 8 inches, ect.

For your next project you have to make sure that you measure it before you start the next step.

Best to you on your next project and thanks for visiting.

Ratcha
