Illogical final two rows of cable jumper back

by Amanda
(Cornwall)

Hello, I am completely baffled by this! I now have 64 sts remaining and have reached the last two rows of the back of a cable knit jumper.
It says "Cast off 9 sts in pattern at beginning of next 2 rows as follows: pattern 3, pattern 2 together, pattern 4." Leaves 46 stitches remaining for stitch holder.
Patt3, patt 2 tog, patt 4 equals 9 stitches and to decrease/ cast off 9 times would require 9 times 9 stitches = 81 but there are only 64 there!
Am I missing something here and being stupid - please can you help? Thank you very much!

cast off 9sts on the last two rows

Hi Amanda,

The pattern said to cast off 9 sts as directed at the beginning of the next 2 rows. That would be only 18 sts decreases. I don't see any instruction that said to decrease 9 times.

All you need to do now is to bind off as directed and leave the remaining 46 sts on the holder and you should be okay.
