How to decrease if I've added 8 stiches to a pattern.

by LP

Hi! I have a pattern based on 64 stiches. The decrease pattern is “k6, ssk” (the between rows are k1,P1, ending k even rows and p odd rows) So there are 8 sections of 8. I added 8 stitches to the pattern for a larger hat. Do I decrease using 9 sections of 8, or 8 sections of 9 to make the decrease of the pattern work properly? Thank you!

Thank you! Ive ripped the top out a few times.

Hat Decreasing

Hi LP,

Thanks for the visit and the question.

When you do the decrease, you decrease all the sections (including the one you added). Your final number of stitches of the crown may not be the same as the pattern but it shouldn't be a big problem.

Happy Knitting!
