How should I turn in the middle of a row?

Please see photo for pattern. I am knitting a chunky jumper, this is the back piece and I have 33 cast on stitches. I understand the pattern to say I should purl 10 stitches, turn the work around and then put those stitches back on the needle that’s got the remaining 23 stitches on. I’m not sure if that’s correct though, as then I would still be working purlwise and the next row is knitwise.

Please can you help with my understanding? Very new to knitting and grateful for some help. Thanks in advance

Neck shaping with turning in the middle of a row
by: Ratchadawan

Hi Carys,

Thanks for the question.
I understand how this can be quite confusing.
First you purl 10 sts and then leave the rest on the left needle. Then turn work (just flip it over). Now work back those 10 sts you just purl which are now at the knitted side. Please see video that I made for you. It'll be much easier to understand.

Have a wonderful time knitting!
