How do you you do yfwd,yrn when it's followed by a knit stitch?

This is when you want to have the yarn wrap around the needle twice.
To do this, you first bring yarn to the front of work, then wrap yarn around right needle one time. Now, the yarn should be at the front. Then you will knit while the yarn is still at the front and with the yarn over the right needle. You should end up with 2 wraps on the right needle.
