left twist knitting stitch

I'm working on a pattern for a dog sweater. The directions say to slip 1st stitch and knit the 2nd stitch in the back loop. So far, so good. But then it says to knit the skipped stitch in the front loop and slip both stitches off the left needle together. I get it in theory but just can't seem to get it right. Can you help?

I think you meant to write "to skip 1st stitch" instead of "slip the first st".

This looks like a cable stitch without a cable needle or a left twist stitch. You knit the second stitch through the back loop on the left needle and don't slip it off the needle yet, then come back to knit the first stitch. then slip both of them off the needle. The result is a cross over of the right stitch over the left stitch creating a 1x1 cable.

Here is a video showing how to do the left twist stitch.
