Fuzzy "inc" instructions

by Arlis Nash
(CASA GRANDE, AZ. USA)

Working an Afghan pattern with the following instructions for one pattern repeat row as follows:

*K2 tog, K2, (inc)2 times, K3, SSK, repeat from *

The instruction notes say:
1. One repeat of 11 sts = 4"

2. Work directions in brackets () the number of times specified

3. Increases are worked Kfb.

Can you define how the increases are worked using these instructions?

Also, by my calculations, repeat is only 9 if the increases are worked in the K2 listed prior to the bracket inc instruction. But if there are 2 more sts where the Kfb's are worked, then the repeat would be 11.

Thanks for your help.

Increases kfb
by: Ratchadawan

Hi Arlis,

K2 tog, K2, (inc)2 times, K3, SSK, repeat from *

Yes, it’s true that you may see this instruction as it is having only 9 stitches when just looking at it. But, as the direction states that each increase is done with kfb method or knit into front and back loops of a stitch. In order to do kfb, there must be an existing stitch to work with. Therefore, inc 2 times in this case means to work kfb increse into each stitch for the next 2 sts. There will be a total of 4 sts within these (inc) 2times instruction. This make 11 st increase.

I hope this is not to confusing. Thank you for the question and visit. Have fun knitting 🧶!
