Easy Baby Headband With A Bow - Free Knitting Pattern

Headband size - 16 inches circumference which is suitable for a newborn to a year old. You can alter the length as needed.  The bow is 6 inches long.  You can make it as long or as short as you please.  It’s all about your liking.

Materials

  1. 1 ball of Baby DK yarn of your choice ( I used YarnBee Soft and Sleek DK).
  2. Knitting needle #7 (4.5mm)
  3. Tapestry needle
  4. Scissors
  5. Small flower for embellishment if preferred

Instructions

For the Band - CO 30 sts.  Work ribbing as follow;

Row 1: *K1, p1; repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 2: P the purl sts and knit the knit sts throughout the row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 16 inches and cast off all stitches.  Cut yarn leaving a 12 inches tail for seaming both ends together.

For the bow - CO 30 sts.  Work the pattern below;

Row 1: (k1,p1) 3 times, K to last 6 sts (p1,k1) 3 times.Row 2: K the knit sts and P the purl sts throughout the row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 12 inches.  Cast off all stitches leaving a 12 inch tail for seaming ends.

Assembly

Block the bow piece overnight or steam block it.

Seam top and bottom ends of the band together using a tapestry needle and a leftover yarn tail.  Do the same with the bow piece.  

Fold the bow piece into a bow as seen in the photo below.  Run the yarn through the folds a few times to secure it.  Wrap the leftover yarn around to further secure the center of the bow.  Sew the bow on top of the band at the seam area.  Attach a small flower at the center of the bow and you’re done!
