Don't understand pattern - k2, inc in next st, k8

Pattern says: K2, Inc. in next st, K8 (12 border sts.)
The problem is that if I knit two then increases in the next stitch and knit 8 stitches, I only have 11 border stitches, not 12.
How am I misreading this.

Hi Olive,

Yes, you'll have 12 sts for the border.

When you increase in the next sts, you knit into front and back of the st. You would gain 1st plus an existing st. That makes 2 sts.

So, you shouldn't have any problem getting 12 sts total.
