Decrease round repeats in circular knitting

by Kathleen
(Dallas)

I've run into these types of decrease round instructions for circular knitting in the past (see below), but I can't seem to understand. For example, after the initial decrease round is complete, the instructions talk about repeating the decrease "every 10th rnd", etc. The decrease round instructions will result in 4 stitches decreased - how then could you decrease "8 more times" in one round (in this example, it would be the 10th round)? Any help would much appreciated!

Dec rnd *Work in patt to m, k1, k2tog, knit to 3 sts before m, ssk, k1, sl m, work in patt to m; rep from * once more—4 sts dec’d. Rep Dec rnd every 10th rnd 8 (4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0) more times, then every 8th rnd 1 (6, 11, 5, 2, 0, 0) time(s), then every 6th rnd 0 (0, 0, 8, 12, 14, 10) times, then every 4th rnd 0 (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 7) time(s)— 138 (158, 178, 194, 214, 230, 250) sts rem. Work 8 rnds even.

I'm breaking the pattern down for you as follow using the size before the parenthesis.

Dec rnd *Work in patt to m, k1, k2tog, knit to 3 sts before m, ssk, k1, sl m, work in patt to m; rep from * once more—4 sts dec’d.

*work to the marker, k1, k2tog, k to 3 sts before marker, ssk, k1, slip marker, work to marker** and repeat from * to **

------------

Rep Dec rnd every 10th rnd 8 (4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0) more times,

Start your row counter for rnd 1 and work without decreasing for 9 rnd. Do decrease from * to ** on rnd 10th. When you complete round 10 you then be making one time decrease. You now have to repeat decrease every 10th row 7 more times to get what the pattern says.

-------------

then every 8th rnd 1 (6, 11, 5, 2, 0, 0) time(s),

The same concept of decrease but this time you only have to work for 7 rounds and decrease on the 8th round. Do this only once.

------------

then every 6th rnd 0 (0, 0, 8, 12, 14, 10) times,

This one is do nothing since my selected size has number 0. So we can just skip this par.

------------

then every 4th rnd 0 (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 7) time(s)— 138 (158, 178, 194, 214, 230, 250) sts rem. Work 8 rnds even.

Same thing with this one. We can just ignor the decrease part.
Work 8 more rnds.
