Confusion Understanding knitting pattern

by Carol
(New Zealand)

Hi There,

I am trying to knit a cardigan for my grand daughter, I got as far as the borders
around the left front, back of the neck and then down the right side
The pattern says knit and wrap then turn after 114 stitches wrap 1 stitch turn
knit 27 stitches wrap 1 and turn, after a few rows of this, the pattern states

Knit 22 rows working 3 stitched between each wrap

Problem: If I knit 22 rows from the left side to the right side eg 229 stitches
The makes very large borders, this can't be right...if I knit just between the wraps
There is a humungus gap when I continue to knit down the side borders, What am I missing
Please help

Hello Carol,

I sent an email responding back to your question and wondering if you've got it. I thought it might be a good idea to post it here.

here it goes;

The row that you're stuck is nothing different than the short rows you were working on previously. Basically, it's a repetitive work for 20 rows. So, on your next row, you would rib 28, wrap 1, turn. Then again row after that you would do, rib 31, wrap, turn. That's what "the working 3 sts more between each wrap" means. To work 3 more sts each time after turning. You won't have gap because you wrap every time before turning.

Keep working short row like above, add 3 more sts for ribbing for each row until you've worked a total of 20 rows. Continue with the rest of the pattern. I'm pretty sure the instruction wants 20 rows total, not 20 rows from the point where you highlighted.

I'm excited to hear about your finish cardigan. Thanks for being patient with me.
Best to you!

Confusion
by: Lynn Johnson

My dear Ratcha! I thought and thought about it and finally it came to me!! You enter from the back of the stitch , stitch around the dc, then continue. This makes a ridge above the crochetting. It is really looking nice. When I get closer to finishing it I will send you a pic. Thanks for always being there!!!

That's fantastic! I'm glad you figured it out.
Thanks, Lynn.

Hi Carol,

Thank you for the question. I'd love to help but I'm confusing even more since I don't know exactly how the pattern begins. I'll need more details of the pattern. Please send me picture of the pattern to ratchachambers@gmail.com and I will take a look at it.
