changing sweater size mid stream

As a gift to my daughter, I'm knitting a pullover with wool and mohair. I started as a size small having knitted the neck and yoke parts. I'm now at the armpit and body. Now, my daughter indicates she'd like the pullover a bit loose. So I now realize I should have knitted it as a medium. Since I'm at a point where I can increase and knit as a medium for the body, can I do that? What are the negatives?

it's okay to keep going for the bigger size. The only problem is that the neck will turn out slightly smaller than suggested.
