Casting off

by Liz
(Cranbrook UK)

I am knitting a cardigan for my baby granddaughter. I need to cast off 17 remaining stitches on the back but when I knit the border I will need to pick up 17 stitches. Could I not just leave the remaining stitches on a stitch holder and then just put them on the needle when doing the border?

Casting off at back of cardigan

Hi Liz,

Yes, you can leave the remaining on the holder. The good thing about casting off is that it gives a more support to the neck and it won't stretch out too much.

Thanks for the question. Have a fun knitting day!
