Best way to make a hat smaller

Question

I knitted a slouch hat which is too big. What is the best way to make it smaller? Do I use the overlocker down back seam or pull out and start again? If later, what size kneedles should i go down to.


Answer

Doing the back seam is an easy and quick way but will leave visible seam. I would prefer to start knitting it all over again. If it's just a little bit too big, then using one size smaller needle should do the job.
