An alternative stitch at the beginning of a row in garter stitch for S1.

I am knitting a blanket in the garter stitch in cotton yarn. It calls for S1 at the beginning of each row. Due to the cotton yarn the S1 stitch at the beginning of each row stretches out and looks terrible! Is there another stitch I can substitute for the S1 stitch which will look better and be easier to knit.

Hi Mary,

I would knit it instead of slipping it. You won’t get a chain edging but it will look better, I think.
Sorry for now reply earlier. I’m on a road trip. WiFi is very limited.
