Substitute 2 Strands of #4 Yarn For #5 Yarn

by Jeri
(Michigan)

Question

If I use 2 strands of a #4 yarn will it be the same as using a #5 yarn?

Answer

Hi Jeri,

No it won't be the same. It will be too bulky for number five.
Yarn #4 has 10 ply and #5 has 12 ply.

Here are helpful yarn gauge charts to help you determine yarn substitution;

Yarn weight thickness

Yarn weight

I hope this helps,

Ratcha
