How to slip 1 knitwise/purlwise

Question

What is slip 1 knitwise and slip 1 purlwise and how do you do it? Can anyone let me know? I'm kind of new to knitting yet I know how to knit, purl...can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Answer

Hi,

This is going to be a piece of cake for you because you already know how to knit and purl.
Slip 1 knitwise is done by inserting a working needle through a loop as if you were to knit and then slip it right off the needle. It's like passing a stitch from one needle to another. You don't need to do any thing to the stitch, just slip it.

Slip 1 purlwise is done by inserting a working needle through a loop of a st just as if you were purling. Then slip it right off the non working needle.

I hope this helps. If you still unclear about this, let me know.
