Question

I am new at this. It says pick up and knit 11 stitches on left shoulder (which I have learned through books and videos how to pick them up) but do I knit them at that time???? Then it says knit across 8 stitches on holder. So, If I only have picked up the 11 stitches and not knitted them at this time, AM I Knitting the middle 8 stitches on holder but not the beginning 11 stitches that I picked up. I bet I am confusing you. I am confused. So what I did which does not seem right is just picked up 11 stitches did not knit them and then knitted the 8 stitches in the front that were on the holder. Is that right?

Answer

Usually when we begin pick up stitches, we start out with new yarn and begin to pick up and knit at the same time. So, you should begin with picking up and knit the first 11 sts and make your way around the neck edge.

Please take a minute to watch this video on how to pick up sts and knit. I just want you to see is what I mean by pickup and knit stitches.

I think it's very confusing because sometimes instruction is not very clear. Some knitter call is pick up and some may call it pick up and knit. But in general it means to pick up and knit especially when working with neck edge.

I hope this helps and thanks for the question.
