Casting off stitches

Question

I have knitted a triangle prayer shawl. Is there a cast off stitch that I can use to prevent the edge from rolling.,
Other than a knit stitch? Would a purl stitch work ? How about a couple more rows of another stitch?

Hi Fran,

Thank you for your sending in you question. I'll try my best to answer it.

Stockinette st seems to always creates rolled edge. Blocking would help some but the rolled edge still come back. I would suggest knit about 1/2 - 1 inch in garter st (knit every row) or seed sts (knit the purl st, and purl the knit st). Rib stitch would help too, but it might suite the shawl very well. After done adding rows, you then bind off using one size bigger needle to keep it from being too tight.
This happened to many times.

Here are some discussion I found on a knitting forum about rolled edges you may be interested in;

I wish you the best on your project. Have a wonderful evening!
